Welcome to Bird Cams
During the last few years I have built a network of bird feeder cams and nest box cameras in my garden, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, UK. I stream the bird feeder, using multiple cameras, daily to YouTube and during nesting season I have also live streamed footage from blue tit nest boxes, dove nests and a sparrow terrace.
I currently have three cameras installed at my bird feeder, showing different angles and food sources. I provide the birds with an array of seed, suet and water. The daily live streams start automatically on a schedule and run for most of the day.
I have a Raspberry Pi mini computer, running BirdNet software, which I use to log the various species of bird visiting my garden. I overlay the BirdNet data into the live video feed, as well as uploading the data here for viewing.
Recently I have also rigged up the image capture/motion sensor feature of the cameras to some code so that the bird images are uploaded to a web server in real-time. The bird species is then identified by machine learning code and then automatically uploaded, as fully automated "bird selfies" to my Bird Watching UK Facebook and Instagram pages.
Back in 2022 I installed my first nest box with a camera in it. Within days of putting the box up a pair of blue tits started checking it out and eventually built a nest. They successfully raised six chicks in the nest box. More recently I have installed a camera at a dove nesting site and I am building a multi-camera sparrow terrace with three seperate nesting compartments.
